60% Visit
Three of the five Barrett's visited us last week. 60% isn't bad. We missed Jamie and Morgan, but certain concessions had to be made. At least we got to see the little ones, who are growing up pretty fast. Click on the thumbnail to view some pictures of the kids. Camryn played 'only child' for a day and hit Disneyland with Aunt Holly and Mom. She also took her first dance class at Focus.

Solving the worldwide VIN shortage
Apparently the worldwide auto industry is running out of VINs. Sounds like the same problem we ran into with IP addresses and I suggest the following solution: Assign every car an IPv6 address. Why not? It's a standard. The math is already done. There's a ton of address space (340 trillion trillion trillion, or so...). Cars will eventually be 'on' the Internet. It makes perfect sense! Now, I know many of you are shaking your collective heads... Assign a single IP Address to each car!? Pure insanity. And you're all asking the same question now: What about all the other devices in my car that will require IP connectivity? Will I have to assign each device it's own IPv6 address? Won't that be messy? Yes, that *could* be a problem. Really though, basic network router technology is cheap and abundant. Shouldn't each car have a small router/firewall (as standard equipment) to handle IP traffic for internal devices? Shouldn't future IP enabled auto devices use DHCP and be designed to use an in-car NAT?

David Sitting
Hol finally got some David-time this evening. After months of promises, the stars aligned. Cyn and Drew were able to give up their little beast for a few hours so we could have some time with him. They went for dinner and a movie. The little guy was full of energy and played the entire time he was here, taking breaks only to eat (or smear the food on me) and drink.
"Cousins" Sparc and Perl were slightly annoyed by the little "intruder", but as far as we are concerned, he's welcome any time. Enjoy the pics Cyn and Drew, I know you were probably thinking I'd have these up while you were still at the movies... maybe next time.

Operation Backyard: Day 2
Day 2 in the jungle. We bagged yesterday's stack of shrubs and started on the funky puffy grass. Apparently the flagstone to grass ratio used to heavily favor the flagstones, now it's all the grass. We ended up (thanks to Hol's quick thinking) using a hand saw to cut back the grass.
